Key points
- As of October 2026, Jersey Mike’s nutrition and allergen tool lists ingredients and major allergens for each part of a sub, including breads, meats, cheeses and toppings.
- Jersey Mike’s says products may be prepared on the same equipment and in the same kitchen area as products containing an allergen, and that cross-contact is possible.
- A gluten-free bread is listed (with egg), and a sub can also be ordered as a bowl, but Jersey Mike’s notes that cornmeal is used when baking its bread.
- For IBS, onions come on cold subs by default, and garlic or onion appear in some meats, mustards, wraps and sauces.
- Menus change and vary by location. Check the current tool and tell the team about your needs every time.
Can you eat at Jersey Mike’s with celiac disease, IBS or a food allergy?
It depends on what you avoid, and Jersey Mike’s publishes a lot of detail. As of October 2026, its Nutrition & Allergens page lets you choose a category, product and size, then shows each component of the sub with its ingredients and allergen marks. The same page carries a clear warning: while a particular product may not contain a particular allergen, it may be prepared on the same equipment and in the same kitchen area as products that do contain that allergen. Jersey Mike’s says cross-contact with allergens is possible and that neither it, its franchisees nor employees assume responsibility for sensitivity or allergy to any food item.
It also notes that products may vary from location to location, that subs are handcrafted and can be customized, and that ingredient substitutions and supply can affect ingredient contents. So the tool tells you what each standard component contains. It doesn’t promise that your sub is free from traces of anything else.
Recipes, suppliers and menus change, and products vary by location. Always check Jersey Mike’s current allergen information and tell the team about your needs before they start your sub. If you have a food allergy, carry your prescribed medication, and call emergency services for a severe reaction.
Breads, wraps and bowls (as of October 2026)
These are the bread and wrap options listed in Jersey Mike’s tool for regular cold subs when we checked in October 2026. Options can vary by location.
| Option | Allergens Jersey Mike’s lists | Also worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| White bread | Wheat | The default bread on the subs we checked |
| Wheat bread | Wheat | Includes honey |
| Rosemary Parmesan bread | Milk, wheat | |
| Seeded Italian bread | Wheat, sesame | |
| Gluten-free bread | Egg | Made with tapioca starch, rice flour and egg whites |
| White, wheat and tomato basil wraps | Wheat | The tomato basil wrap seasoning lists garlic and onion |
| Spinach herb wrap | Wheat | Seasoning lists onion and garlic powder |
| Garlic herb wheat wrap | Wheat, sesame | Seasoning lists garlic |
| Bowl (no bread) | Depends on fillings | Croutons are an add-on, listed with milk and wheat |
The page also carries a note that cornmeal is used during the baking process of its bread. That matters if you avoid corn, and it’s a reminder that bread is handled in the same kitchen. Jersey Mike’s doesn’t say on the page how gluten-free bread is stored, sliced or toasted, so ask at your location.
Celiac disease and gluten at Jersey Mike’s
Jersey Mike’s lists a gluten-free bread, and you can order most subs as a bowl. Neither changes the cross-contact statement on its nutrition page. In a sub shop, the main shared points are usually the bread, the knives and cutting surfaces, the slicer and the grill for hot subs. The Celiac Disease Foundation lists shared equipment such as toasters and cutting boards among common sources of cross-contact.
A few points from Jersey Mike’s ingredient lists, as of October 2026:
- The gluten-free bread is listed with egg. If you also have an egg allergy, it isn’t a workaround.
- Croutons on bowls are listed with wheat and milk. Ask for no croutons from the start.
- French fries are listed with wheat. The ingredient list includes bleached wheat flour in the fry coating.
- Hot subs are grilled, with grilled onions and peppers on many of them. The tool doesn’t say whether the grill is shared with bread, so ask.
- Wraps are all listed with wheat.
The NIDDK suggests telling the server you have celiac disease and asking how food is prepared, and notes that cross-contact can make gluten-free foods unsuitable. Our guides to eating out with celiac disease and gluten-free vs celiac-safe can help you weigh it. If you haven’t been tested for celiac disease, get tested while you’re still eating gluten.
IBS at Jersey Mike’s: onion, garlic and sauces
Jersey Mike’s full ingredient lists make it easier than most chains to spot common FODMAP sources. On the cold subs we checked, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, an olive oil blend, red wine vinegar, oregano and salt are included by default. Monash University lists onion and garlic among higher-FODMAP foods, along with wheat-based breads, honey and high fructose corn syrup.
| Component | What Jersey Mike’s lists (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Onions | Included by default on cold subs |
| Grilled onions | Included on the Philly-style hot subs we checked |
| Hard salami | Garlic powder |
| Pepperoni | Dehydrated garlic |
| Philly chicken | Seasoning with dehydrated onion and garlic |
| Chipotle mayo | Onion, garlic and high fructose corn syrup |
| Thousand Island (on the Reuben) | Onion powder, garlic powder and onion in the relish |
| Yellow mustard, honey mustard | Garlic powder; the honey mustard also lists high fructose corn syrup and honey |
| Dill pickles | One of the two listed recipes includes garlic |
| Hot honey | Honey |
On the subs we checked, the turkey, ham, Philly beef, provolone and Swiss didn’t list garlic or onion by name. That doesn’t mean they’re right for you, and recipes change, so check the current tool. Asking for no onions and choosing your sauce carefully is a simple starting point.
Wheat bread is a FODMAP source for some people too; a bowl or the gluten-free bread are options to try with your dietitian’s guidance. Portion size matters with FODMAPs, so a mini or regular may sit differently from a giant. Our guides to hidden garlic and onion, eating out with IBS and FODMAP portion sizes explain more.
Milk, egg, fish, sesame and other allergens
- Milk: provolone, Swiss, white American cheese, the Rosemary Parmesan bread and croutons are listed with milk.
- Egg: mayo, chipotle mayo, Thousand Island, the tuna salad and the gluten-free bread are listed with egg.
- Fish: the tuna salad is listed with fish, egg and soy. It’s made on the same line as other subs.
- Soy: white American cheese and the tuna salad are listed with soy.
- Sesame: the Seeded Italian bread and garlic herb wheat wrap are listed with sesame.
- Peanuts and tree nuts: none of the sub components we checked were marked, but the general cross-contact statement applies.
Mustard isn’t one of the nine major US allergens, so it isn’t marked in the tool, but it appears by name in the yellow, spicy brown and honey mustards and in some sauces. If you have a mustard allergy, or you follow the UK and EU list of 14 allergens, read the full ingredients.
Jersey Mike’s cross-contact statement covers shared equipment, and its tool doesn’t say which foods share a slicer. FARE notes that cross-contact can happen through shared utensils and that tiny amounts of an allergen can cause reactions. If you have a milk allergy, it’s reasonable to ask whether the slicer used for your meat is also used for cheese, and whether it can be washed first.
How to order at Jersey Mike’s with food restrictions
- Look up the sub first on the Nutrition & Allergens page. Pick the right size and bread, since allergens change with each.
- Check every component, including the default toppings, oil and vinegar, sauces and add-ons.
- Tell the team at the start, before they slice or cut. Ask for a glove change, a fresh knife and a washed surface if you need them.
- Order changes up front, such as no onions, no cheese or a bowl without croutons. Removing an ingredient later doesn’t undo contact.
- Ask about the slicer and grill for allergies and celiac disease.
- If you’re unsure, keep it simple or choose another option. That’s always a reasonable call.
FARE suggests choosing quieter times, when staff have more time to answer questions, and carrying your epinephrine auto-injector if you have one prescribed. Our guide to burgers and fast food with food restrictions covers similar counter-service situations.
Phrases to use at the counter
- "I have celiac disease. Could you change gloves and use a fresh knife and board for my gluten-free sub?"
- "I have a milk allergy. Is this meat sliced on the same slicer as the cheese?"
- "Could I have it with no onions, please, and just oil and vinegar?"
- "Does this sauce have garlic or onion in it?"
- "Could you make it as a bowl with no croutons?"

How SafeBelly helps
Know before you eat.
You can search parts of your sub, like provolone, salami or the gluten-free bread, in SafeBelly to see whether each is a "Yes", "Eat this with care" or "No" for the conditions you’ve chosen, with the reason, and every check includes the 14 major allergens. For FODMAP-based conditions it shows small, typical and large portions. It’s a food information app, so Jersey Mike’s current allergen tool and the team still come first.
SafeBelly is in final testing on iPhone and Android. Leave your email and we'll send one note the day it's in the App Store and on Google Play.
