Building SafeBelly, in the open

Every improvement, written down. SafeBelly is engine-first: most of what we ship is accuracy you'll never see — which is exactly the point.

  1. Ready for TestFlight

    Latest

    October 2026

SafeBelly is on TestFlight for iPhone. Every answer now shows how it changes at a small, typical and large portion, food tiles use our own line icons, and Home asks how your belly is with one tap, with an optional gentle check-in a couple of hours after you log a meal. Amounts are optional when you log, and pricing is set: $7.99 a month or $49.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial.

  2. 6.3 million products, labels read for all 14 allergens

    July 2026

Barcode coverage grew 250-fold: the full Open Food Facts mirror (4.3M products) plus USDA manufacturer-label data (2M US products), all self-hosted, so your scans are checked on our own servers. And scans got sharper — when a label names an allergen, in any of its hidden forms (casein, whey, semolina, tahini and dozens more), the verdict is now a clear no instead of a cautious maybe. Detection only ever errs toward caution: an unreadable label still says check the pack, never a false all-clear.

  3. Prediabetes, done the SafeBelly way

    July 2026

Blood-sugar support graduated from data-only to real verdicts — rebuilt around prediabetes. Carb-dense or high-sugar servings now read eat-with-care, with the practical nudge (a smaller serving, or pairing with protein or fiber) and the numbers behind it: carbs, net carbs, sugars, and glycemic load where a published index exists. Deliberately never a hard no — no food is off-limits, and every threshold has a published source (FSA front-of-pack bands, published glycemic-load bands).

  4. TestFlight beta prep

    July 2026

The app slimmed down to five tabs centered on Scan, so testers meet a focused product: Home (with your safe list), Search, Scan, Diary, Profile. The Guided Journey, a three-phase elimination, reintroduction and maintenance path, is the heart of v1.

  5. Personalization loop

    July 2026

Reintroduction outcomes now write back to your profile as personal tolerances that adjust future verdicts, and Home surfaces meal-to-symptom patterns per FODMAP group. Your answers start becoming yours, not a population average.

  6. Verdict recalibration

    July 2026

We recalibrated the FODMAP banding thresholds against our held-out validation set: band accuracy is now 96.2% on the held-out set with flag precision at 100%, and zero allergen false negatives — the release-blocking bar every build must clear.

  7. Barcode coverage

    July 2026

The packaged-goods mirror grew to ~26,000 products, checked ingredient-by-ingredient against the condition engine — so scanning in the aisle answers from our own database, fast, without your data leaving our systems.

  8. Your data, protected

    July 2026

Health data on the device is now encrypted with AES-256-GCM, consent is captured in plain language at condition setup, and in-app account deletion erases everything — because your conditions are nobody's business but yours.

  9. Dark mode & design system

    July 2026

The full SafeBelly design language landed: warm paper tones, a calm verdict palette, the bespoke monoline icon set, and a complete dark theme — the same one this site wears.

  10. The condition engine

    June 2026

Where it all started: dose-aware FODMAP scoring per group and per portion, a hard no on gluten for celiac and on any of the 14 EU allergens you choose, blood-sugar carb and GI data (now the prediabetes advisory), and multi-condition support — every threshold compiled from published research.
