8 min read · Updated October 12, 2026 · 6 sources

Key points

  • As of October 2026, Red Robin’s online allergen tool lists a Gluten Free Bun and a lettuce-wrap "Wedgie Style" option among its burger buns; the Gluten Free Bun lists egg.
  • Red Robin’s item pages say its food may contain or come into contact with common allergens, and that cross contact may occur during food preparation.
  • Red Robin says Steak Fries are fried in a designated fryer on request to avoid gluten cross-contact, so you need to ask for it.
  • For IBS, Red Robin Seasoning lists garlic powder, onion powder and celery seed, and it appears on the beef patty and the Steak Fries.
  • Menus change. Check Red Robin’s current allergen menu and tell your server about any allergy or celiac disease every time.

Can you eat at Red Robin with celiac disease, IBS or a food allergy?

Red Robin has one of the more detailed allergen programs among burger chains. As of October 2026, its Allergen Menu page says that when an allergen-related request comes in, the kitchen is notified and staff use dedicated tools and protocols to prevent cross-contact, and that each allergen-accommodated meal is marked with a purple pick. It links to an online allergen tool where you can see each item’s ingredients and allergens.

Red Robin’s item pages in that tool are also clear about the limits. Each one ends with the same notice: "Please be aware that our food may contain or come into contact with common allergens," and "cross contact may occur during food preparation." So this guide doesn’t point to "safe" choices. It summarizes what Red Robin itself publishes, so you can see where gluten, milk, egg, soy, sesame and common FODMAP sources appear, and what to ask.

This guide covers Red Robin’s US menu as shown in its allergen tool in October 2026 (the tool showed a last update of October 5, 2026). Recipes, suppliers and menus change, and the tool asks you to pick a restaurant location. Check the current information and tell your server about your needs every time. If you have a food allergy, carry your prescribed medication, and call emergency services for a severe reaction.

What Red Robin says about allergens and cross-contact

As of October 2026, Red Robin’s own pages say:

  • Program: its allergen menu is maintained by Certified Master Allergen Trainers, and when an allergen-related request is made, the kitchen is notified and staff use dedicated tools and protocols to prevent cross-contact.
  • Purple pick: each allergen-accommodated meal is marked with a purple pick.
  • Online tool: the Allergy-Friendly Menu lets you choose allergens to avoid, including gluten, dairy, nuts and soy, and shows items you can modify.
  • Item pages: each item lists its ingredients, a "Contains" line and, for many items, a separate "Cross Contact" line, followed by the warning that cross contact may occur during food preparation.

Red Robin’s marketing pages use reassuring language about its program. Its item-level notices are more cautious, and they are the ones to plan around. The tool also has a "Cross-contact OK" setting; Red Robin explains that choosing it allows some allergens in your food due to potential cross-contact in the kitchen or factory, and says that if you have strict restrictions, you should not choose it.

To apply filters in the online tool, Red Robin asks you to read and agree to its terms. You can open item pages and see ingredients and allergens without filtering.

Celiac disease and gluten at Red Robin

Red Robin’s allergen tool describes its gluten filter as a menu of "Gluten Friendly" items prepared without gluten-containing ingredients. That wording describes ingredients, not a gluten-free kitchen. As of October 2026, these details stand out:

  • Buns: the standard Brioche Bun lists wheat flour, malted barley flour and wheat gluten, plus sesame. Burger bun options in the tool include a Gluten Free Bun and Wedgie Style (iceberg lettuce, with no major allergens listed).
  • Gluten Free Bun: made from starches, rice, rice bran, egg whites and psyllium, among other ingredients. Red Robin lists it as containing eggs.
  • Fries: Red Robin says Steak Fries "are fried in a designated fryer upon request to avoid gluten cross-contact." The same item page lists wheat among possible cross contact allergens, so the request matters.
  • Crispy chicken: the Hand Battered Crispy Chicken contains wheat, gluten and milk.
  • Sauces: Whiskey River BBQ Sauce lists soy sauce and contains gluten, soy and wheat.

The Celiac Disease Foundation lists fried foods cooked in oil shared with breaded products as a cross-contact risk, which is why the designated-fryer request is worth making every time. Whether Red Robin’s kitchen is an acceptable risk is a decision to make with your gastroenterologist or dietitian. Our guide to gluten-free vs celiac-safe explains the difference.

Burgers, proteins and sauces: what Red Robin lists

These examples come from Red Robin’s online allergen tool as checked in October 2026. They describe what Red Robin lists; they are not recommendations, and they can change.

Sesame is worth watching here: the standard Brioche Bun and the black and white sesame bun both carry it. Mustard and celery, two of the 14 allergens labeled in the EU and UK, appear in Campfire Mayo (mustard bran and celery seed) and Red Robin Seasoning (celery seed). Our guide to major food allergens explains the US and EU/UK lists. For any allergy, FARE notes that shared grills and fryers are common sources of cross-contact.

IBS at Red Robin: where FODMAPs tend to appear

Based on Red Robin’s ingredient lists and menu descriptions as of October 2026:

  • Seasoning: Red Robin Seasoning lists garlic powder and onion powder. It’s included on the Gourmet Cheeseburger and on the Steak Fries.
  • Garlic: in the Roasted Garlic Aioli, Campfire Mayo and Whiskey River BBQ Sauce; the Bottomless Garlic Fries are finished with garlic parmesan butter.
  • Onion: fresh yellow onion on several burgers, onion in the pickle relish, Campfire Mayo and BBQ sauce, and crispy onion straws on the Haystack and Whiskey River burgers.
  • Veggie Patty: lists onions, onion powder, garlic, chickpeas, beans and golden raisins.
  • Wheat and lactose: in the standard buns, battered items, cheese and creamy sauces.
  • Sweeteners: Whiskey River BBQ Sauce lists high fructose corn syrup.

Monash lists garlic, onion, wheat-based breads and honey among higher-FODMAP foods, and potato among lower-FODMAP ones. A simpler build (fewer sauces, no onion, a lettuce wrap or plain bun you tolerate) is a common starting point, but the seasoning on the patty and fries may still matter to you; ask whether it can be left off. Our guides to burgers and fast food and hidden garlic and onion have more ideas.

How to order at Red Robin with food restrictions

  1. Check the item page in Red Robin’s allergen tool for every part of your meal: bun, protein, cheese, sauce, seasoning and side.
  2. Tell your server about an allergy or celiac disease at the start, so the kitchen is notified, as Red Robin describes.
  3. Ask for the designated fryer if you’re ordering Steak Fries for gluten reasons, and ask whether the seasoning can be left off.
  4. Look for the purple pick on an allergen-accommodated meal, and ask if it’s missing.
  5. If you’re unsure, skip it. It’s fine to choose something simpler or eat elsewhere.

Helpful phrases: "I have celiac disease. Can the Steak Fries go in the designated fryer?" and "I have an egg allergy. Does the Gluten Free Bun have egg?" Our guide to talking to restaurant staff about allergies has more.

How SafeBelly helps

Know before you eat.

You can search a burger topping, sauce or side in SafeBelly to see whether it’s a "Yes", "Eat this with care" or "No" for the conditions you’ve chosen, with the reason, and every check includes the 14 major allergens. For FODMAP-based conditions it shows small, typical and large portions, which helps with bottomless sides. It’s a food information app, so Red Robin’s current allergen menu and your server still come first.
